Want a fun way to tie family home evening to St. Patrick’s Day? How about a whole activity using THREE-leafed clovers? It’s one of my very favorite things to do for family home evening because it helps my family focus on our “small” daily blessings. Looking for and appreciating only the “big” blessings is like hunting for four-leafed clovers in the middle of a field of three-leafed clovers. You might find one, but you’ll be overlooking a thousands of regular clovers in the mean time! If every clover represents a blessing, wouldn’t it be great to enjoy them all?
To the right and below is the St. Patrick’s Day lesson my package of family home evening cards Family Night Made Easy: A Year of Instant Lessons and Uplifting Activities. The image shows the front of the card on the left-hand side and the back of the card on the right. Since it might be hard to read, the text is below.
Go Green Food Ideas
As far as a treat idea, just go green! Here’s the link to some recipes, including my Banana-Oat Smoothie, which is a fun green smoothie you could try. Another food idea is spinach scrambled eggs – blend eggs and spinach together and then scramble them as you normally would. And, of course, things like cucumbers, celery, and broccoli are all great for St. Pat’s green theme.
Enjoy!

Quotes
“If we will take a step back and consider the blessings in our lives, including seemingly small, sometimes overlooked blessings, we can find greater happiness.” (Thomas S. Monson, “Consider the Blessings,” Ensign, Nov. 2012)
Scripture Stories
The Lord tells us that He created the earth and all things in it for our benefit, use, and pleasure. (See D&C 59:16–19. GAP #2 and #3)
Activity
Talk about the Creation and the beauty of nature. One of God’s creations is a clover. It is easy to overlook regular three-leafed clovers because they are more common than four-leafed clovers. Draw or print off some paper three- and four-leaf clovers. Write blessings on each clover. (If desired, tape the clovers on the wall in a heart shape, wreath shape, or clover shape.) Talk about how blessed and lucky each person is. Then talk about how lucky your family is. Have everyone go outside for just a few minutes and collect a few things in nature that God created. Come back together and share what you collected. Talk about the natural blessings we are surrounded with and how nature testifies of God—the Creator of all things in heaven and in earth.
