Mother’s Day is next week! Here’s a free, fast FHE on mothers. It’s one of the family home evening ideas from my upcoming project: Family Night Made Easy: A Year of Instant Lessons and Uplifting Activities.
All 52+ recipe-card-sized cards are formatted like the one on the right. The left side of the image shows what’s one the front of the card; the right side shows the back. The text for this card, along with a couple comments, is below.
My personal favorite part of this lesson is the last video link at the end. It goes to a clip of Elder Holland talking to and encouraging mothers.
My favorite treat for this lesson is Berries and Chocolate Plate. Directions are included with three other fast treat ideas – 5 minute blender ice cream, Nutty spiced apples, Fully Fruit Salad – here.
Enjoy!

Quote
“To all of our mothers everywhere, past, present, or future, I say, ‘Thank you. Thank you for giving birth, for shaping souls, for forming character, and for demonstrating the pure love of Christ.’ To Mother Eve, to Sarah, Rebekah, and Rachel, to Mary of Nazareth, and to a Mother in Heaven, I say, ‘Thank you for your crucial role in fulfilling the purposes of eternity.’ To all mothers in every circumstance, including those who struggle—and all will—I say, ‘Be peaceful. Believe in God and yourself. You are doing better than you think you are. . . . Your love ‘never faileth.’” I can pay no higher tribute to anyone.” (Jeffrey R. Holland, “Behold Thy Mother,” Ensign, Nov. 2015)
Scripture Stories
The two thousand young Anti-Nephi-Lehi warriors faithfully defend their families. Their mothers taught them that if they had faith and did not doubt, God would keep them safe. All of them end up being injured, but none of them are killed. (See Alma 53:10–22, Alma 56, and Alma 57:19–27. GAP #80)
Activity
Make Mother’s Day cards. You can make a card for the mother in your family, your grandmothers, or female teachers and leaders your kids particularly like.
Write the letters M-O-T-H-E-R on a large paper and have the children think of things mothers like that begin with each letter. Write their answers on the paper. For example, my kids would do this acrostic poem for me:
M – Music
O – Otters
T – Talking to friends
H – Help with chores
E – Essential oils
R – Reading
Scriptures (I read one of these scriptures per day to my family during breakfast for our family scripture study.)
Exodus 20:12, Genesis 1:27–28, D&C 138:38–39, Matthew 19:16–19, Alma 56:47–48, Alma 57:21, Ephesians 6:1–4
