Pioneer Day is this week and there are some really neat things to talk about. LDS people have been given a legacy of faith from the pioneers and I am so grateful we have a day to remember them.

I’m including three short videos that have leaders talking about pioneer day with some images in the background.

  1. Here is a very short videoclip from President Uchtdorf about how all members have pioneer legacy.
  2. Here’s a clip of Elder Dallin H. Oaks talking about how we are all pioneers. It includes a few people sharing how they are modern-day pioneers.
  3. In this clip, Elder Neil Anderson talks about what the pioneers experienced and testifies of Jesus Christ. (5.5 minutes)

Here are 3 ideas for Pioneer Day:

  1. Focus on FAITH – the pioneers had great faith that the Lord would take care of them and give them a place to worship him freely.
  2. Pioneer Day - Seagulls

Focus on FASTING – the classic story of the crickets and seagulls is a beautiful, faith-promoting pioneer story. An account in the Primary 5 manual shares that the pioneers fasted for help when the crickets were eating their crops. I use this story to introduce the topic of fasting with my kids.

  3. Watch a pioneer movie like Legacy (53 minutes) or a shorter clip on pioneers like this one called “Faith in Every Footstep” (7 minutes). Videos like these will help your family connect with what the pioneers went through to come across the plains and settle a bare, mountainous area and build up the headquarters of the Church today.

I hope you and your family have a wonderful Pioneer Day and, as always…

Happy Home Evenings!
