Father’s Day is just around the corner and that means a variety of things for people. For FHEasy followers, it means a free lesson this week! Happy Father’s Day!
Here’s my Father’s Day post from last year that has my husband’s favorite homemade ice cream recipe as well as an explanation of why we focus on Father’s Day the week before the actual day.
Today, though, I want to encourage you to have and express confidence in the dads in your life. If you are a dad, by all means, encourage and have confidence in yourself!
In the last general conference, Elder Christofferson said,
As a Church, we believe in fathers. We believe in “the ideal of the man who puts his family first.” We believe that “by divine design, fathers are to preside over their families in love and righteousness and are responsible to provide the necessities of life and protection for their families.” … We believe that far from being superfluous, fathers are unique and irreplaceable.
When I heard this quote I remember thinking of it as, “We believe in having fathers in the home. We believe men should be responsible fathers. We believe in fatherhood.” But as I was praying about this post (yes, I definitely pray about my blog posts) it struck me differently. I began thinking, “We believe in fathers!” We believe in their inherent ability to be wonderful dads and good people. We believe that they can be a huge blessing to their families. We believe they can do whatever the Lord wants them to do.
Have you ever felt tired or discouraged and then someone you cared about expressed confidence in you, saying, in essence, “I believe in you!” How did that make you feel? Can you do that for the dads in your life?
Why the word “dads” plural? Because we have lots of father figures: our own dads, our husbands if we’re married, our grandfathers, special teachers or coaches can be father figures, and, of course, we all have a Heavenly Father. When was the last time you expressed that kind of faith in God as your Father?
When I was growing up, I heard a song called “Let’s Hear it for the Boy”. I don’t remember where it came from or who sings it, I just remember my mom singing it full voice around the house and it was so fun! It felt like she was really cheering my dad on with her whole heart. And that’s what I want to encourage you do for your husband if you’re married, your dad, your grandfathers, and any other father figures in your life.
And next Sunday, I wish you all …
Happy Father’s Day!
